DIY Christmas Wreaths Prettier Than Anything In the Store

Easy Snowman Wreath

It takes just minutes to create this wintry wreath. And, because it’s not Christmas-specific, Frosty can stay on your door well into the New Year. For a personal touch, let the kids help to create the washi tape nose, hat, and scarf.

Just like the snowman wreath, we can create so many other things. Just check out a few photos.

HOW TO DECORATE A CHRISTMAS TREE

RICH TRADITION

Cosy up with classic charm (above)
*Stick to rich red as your dominant colour and add painted wooden decorations and embroidered fabric pieces.
*Revel in nostalgia with familiar festive motifs such as candy canes, nutcrackers, gingerbread men and robins.
*For a cosy feel, mix in tartan baubles and wrap the tree base in tartan fabric.
*Pop a large bow on top of your tree in place of a fairy or star tree topper.
*Quick chic: tie big bows of red ribbon onto branches. Space them evenly across your tree for the best effect.

OLD GOLD

Muted metallics lend an aura of glamorous faded grandeur
*Create an elegant effect by using old gold with bronzes, pewters and natural touches.
*Before hanging your baubles, drape your tree in beaded trims. This will give a glittering base to which you can add detail.
*Look out for baubles with geometric and faceted shapes to lend the scheme extra detail.
*Introduce natural motifs such as acorns and birds – they provide a lovely contrast to the glamorous gold elements.
*Quick chic: silk tassels add to the luxe look.

SIMPLE SCANDI

Celebrate the festive season in Nordic country style
*Choose hearts, stars and woodland motifs in a palette of bright red and pure white.
*Laser-cut designs add an element of intricate pattern.
*Choose lights that make a statement in their own right, like bells and woven ball lights.
*For a quirky feature, stack gifts on a wooden sled at the base of the tree.
*Soften the look with knitted and felt designs.
*Quick chic: use stylish gift tags as an inexpensive alternative to baubles.

PRETTY VINTAGE

Go retro with a sprinkle of nostalgic magic
*Choose dusky, faded pastels, rather than sugary-sweet shades, for a pretty effect that’s sophisticated too.
*Mercurised glass is a key element to this look.
*Introduce whimsical touches, such as swans or peacocks.
*A few heirloom-style pieces, such as hanging snow globes and teardrop baubles, will give the impression of vintage treasures.
*Quick chic: twinkling beaded tree lights will bring this look alive.
